Liverpool City Region’s FinTech ecosystem is a dynamic and evolving landscape that combines the region’s historic significance as a trading hub with a contemporary focus on financial technology innovation.
The Liverpool City Region, encompassing the city of Liverpool and Wirral, St Helens, Sefton, Knowsley and Halton lays claim to an established FinTech ecosystem. As of 2023, the FinTech sector in the region is estimated to be generating £218.8 of GVA per year for the regional economy and is home to over 40 FinTech firms with key strengths in payments, WealthTech, InsurTech and accounting.
FinTechs created in the Liverpool City Region include CIRCA5000 (formerly known as tickr), while firms such as Cashplus Bank and Swoop have recently expanded into the region. Major established financial services brands including Investec, Rathbones, RSA, Barclays, Santander, and The Very Group are based in the region.
