Agenda – From Start-up to Scale-up to World-beater: Growing a FinTech Business
Our monthly Friday morning Leeds meet-up is this Friday.
We’re meeting at 8.15am for breakfast and a chat and then sitting down for 9am.
Our first presentation is from Alastair McGeorge, a Senior Manager at Deloitte’s Regional Financial Services Practice. Alastair will be giving an overview to open the session covering how to operate in a regulated environment. We’ll then hear fromKylie from rebuildingsociety.com. Rebuildingsociety.com is a Leeds-based peer-to-peer lending platform focusing on finance for small and medium businesses. Kylie will lead us through the myriad challenges faced by the start-up since they began in 2012.
Following Kylie and also from Deloitte will be Ryan Carey and Dave Taylor looking at the FinTech lifecycle and how to manage tax risk and opportunity in a disruptive world. Ryan is a Director in Deloitte’s Private Markets Tax practice and Dave is a Consultant with the Deloitte Financial Services Insurance team.
Our second FinTech speaker will be Sam Davies, Head of Growth at UOWN. UOWN is a platform offering anyone the ability to invest and earn money in property at the click of a button. They plan to give the ownership of UK property back to the people. UOWN.co state their belief that any investor big or small should have access to the same returns and that specialist knowledge should not be a barrier when it comes to access to financial opportunities.
Finally, to round off the presentations we’ll hear from Greg Michel from Tech Nation (formerly Tech City) who will walk us through their recent changes and their FinTech growth programme.
We’ll end with a panel session on FinTech business growth. Our speakers will be joined by Stefan Haase from Whitecap. Stefan leads many business growth and tech projects at Whitecap Consulting who have recently launched their Leeds City Region FinTech ecosystem analysis, a project sponsored by Leeds City Council, for which they are looking to gather insight from the Leeds FinTech community. Also joining the panel will be Stuart Clarke who, as founder of Leeds Digital Festival, is a central figure in the Leeds Tech ecosystem and will no doubt have a broad range of experiences and examples to draw into the discussion.
