FinTech Envoy and FCA Announced as Speakers for FinTech North
The one-day tech conference, FinTech North takes place on 26th of April 2017 and we are proud to announce the FCA and the FinTech Envoy for the North as speakers.
It is our pleasure to confirm Fintech North will be chaired by Dr Chris Sier who was announced in the HM Treasury autumn statement 2016 as the government’s FinTech Envoy for the North of England.
A keynote speaker at last year’s FinTech North event, Chris is a Director of FiNexus and has been very active in the Leeds community and further afield over the last 12 months developing and extending collaborations between businesses, universities, regional / central government and UK / international start-ups in FinTech, RegTech and other areas of digital innovation. In the UK, FiNexus is developing a programme to build a series of FinTech research and innovation centres around the UK to continue the UK’s position as leader in FinTech innovation – the first of which will be based in Leeds.

We can also announce that the FCA’s Christopher Woolard will speak at FinTech North on the future of regulatory policy in FinTech. Christopher is an executive FCA Board member and Director of Strategy and Competition. He is responsible for policy, strategy, competition, market intelligence, consumer issues, the Chief Economist’s department, communications and Project Innovate. He is chair of the FCA’s Policy Steering Committee and a non-executive board member of the Payment Systems Regulator.

Dr Chris Sier is MD of FiNexus, a knowledge-transfer and research organisation that builds and operates innovation ecosystems (FiNexus Labs) across Europe. Chris advises stakeholders including the UK Government on innovation and FinTech and also advises the UK Government, Regulators, the World Bank and various trade bodies on pension fund Corporate Governance and Cost Transparency. He is Professor of Practice at Newcastle University Business School and the UK Treasury Fintech ‘Envoy’ for the North of England.
Christopher Woolard joined the FCA in January 2013. Prior to this he was Group Director and Content Board member at Ofcom. He has spent most of his career in regulation or policy development including working at the BBC and in government as a senior civil servant. He is a Sloan Fellow of London Business School.
