Northern FinTech attracts major investment following Manchester Conference FinTech showcase segment

FinTech North has long been a catalyst for showcasing FinTech innovation, fostering connections and facilitating growth across the North of England’s FinTech ecosystem. Our conferences are more than just events – they are a platform for organisations to share groundbreaking ideas, connect with like-minded professionals and discover new business opportunities.

At our flagship conferences, one of the most anticipated elements is our FinTech showcase, a segment where emerging and established FinTechs present their propositions to an engaged audience.

We’re truly delighted to share the following testimonial from James Fell, CEO and Co-Founder of Credit Canary, highlighting the real impact of this showcase and the doors it can open for ambitious fintechs. He also shared a few valuable tips for fintechs looking to make the most of their own showcase experience:

“One of the highlights of every FinTech North conference that everyone eagerly anticipates is their coveted fintech showcase. It’s where the FTN team brings together the best-in-class fintechs to present their offerings to the world.

Despite typically being scheduled towards the end of the day, when the showcase kicks off, there’s a noticeable surge in dopamine and excitement levels in the room, with the audience fully receptive to new, disruptive ideas.

At Credit Canary, we’ve had the privilege of participating in this showcase three times. Each occasion has unlocked new opportunities, taught us something new about our proposition through the Q&A sessions (especially when Christopher Sier is involved), and helped us grow our network.

However, our most recent experience was transformation for Credit Canary. At the 2024 Manchester conference, our pitch attracted significant investment from multiple active angel investors in the audience within just 48 hours.

Reflecting on our pitch, while one could argue it was “luck”, I believe there were several factors that gave us an unfair advantage. I want to share these insights with budding fintechs looking to showcase:

– We approached with a clear objective: We wanted to find new opportunities to close our funding round, and our pitch was in good shape.

– We practised extensively: Recognising the competitive nature of the showcase, we honed our pitch to ensure it stood out and resonated with the audience.

– We followed up promptly: Immediately after the event, we reached out to everyone who expressed interest, regardless of the nature of their inquiry. You never know what opportunities might arise.

– We did our homework: By researching the audience beforehand, we tailored our pitch to the right level and focused on relevant areas.

– We amplified our involvement: We leveraged social media before, during, and after the event to maximise our exposure.

For any aspiring fintech looking to push forward, I wholeheartedly recommend staying close to the amazing FinTech North team and getting involved when opportunities arise. I’d be more than happy to help anyone preparing to participate.

I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to the team at FinTech North for their continued support and advocacy. Their platform has been instrumental in our growth, and I’m sure many other fintechs across the UK feel the same way.”
